I can't think of any case where that's true. Einstein was recognized as a genius before his death. Most are recognized from childhood (Carl Friedrich Gauss, John Nash, Blaise Pascal, John von Neumann, etc.)


Wolfram was, in fact, a child (or at least teenage) prodigy.


Seems more common in media fields (Van Gogh, Lovecraft, etc.)
