I think this also maps cleanly on the American blueprint of enshitification. Facebook took off by cleanly integrating and siphoning from Myspace so users could get the best of both on Facebook. Once Facebook took over the market they locked it up tight so no competitor could do the same.
Additionally, tariffs should be targeted for the specific goods (e.g. CHIPS Act). To do blanket tariffs on entire countries doesn't make sense. Why move manufacturing to the US when importing raw materials also costs more?
I've seen that same policy in regular corporations. Giving any member of a team 5/5 meant a personal phone call with HR and your skip level to justify it, while the message was sent unofficially beforehand that having that meeting would be bad for a manager's career.
when I had >8 direct reports I was usually allowed to give a single 5/5, greatly exceeds expectations, etc, but it was also made clear to me in unrecorded formats that I also better have someone with a failing score if I did that.

One thing that's having a little comeback is the email newsletter (see Beehiiv). There's something nice about being able to get exactly what you signed up for and nothing more. No ads, no recommended content, no infinite scroll.
Yeah ever since email spam filters have been effective, email can now work as a social network. I genuinely think it's an untapped opportunity for the next "great thing".
The crazy part of that is how much it undermines all the apocalyptic hype about AGI replacing our entire workforce. Surprise, it's just another app filled with ads and premium subscriptions.

We've always had an issue with Christian Nationalism in the US, and they use any excuse they can to push their agenda. If it's not gay marriage it's immigration, or trans rights, or whatever other wedge issue they can create a moral panic over.
It's vital to remember that nationalist goals are absolute, but they will lie about it. They say they just want to protect women's sports to get their foot in the door, and then they're banning gender affirming care and looking to re-criminalize gay marriage. There's no reason to compromise with nationalists.
