Probably the battery isn’t that great because it’s old — I’d be curious what mAh it’s still holding. Also wondering if that display is being connected and somehow drawing power from the computer (although I wouldn’t think it should if it’s turned off).
2FA over SMS is stupidly bad. It's worse than TOTP in every aspect including this reason. It is also much less secure. You could start switching accounts to TOTP regardless of this and then decide if you want to switch your number later when you have the option.
TOTP is portable and can be backed up.
I went a little bit off on a tangent, the stupidity of SMS 2FA is a pet peeve of mine.
Only if you don't backup your TOTP tokens. Just like you lose your photos when you lose your phone. One of the main advantages of TOTP is that it is portable and can be backed up.

Or someone else gets access to your SIM by sim swapping you, which is not as stupidly easy as it used to be, but still SMS remains insecure. Building an authentication system on it is just a bad idea from virtually every angle.
I suggest exporting your password manager && your topt keychain onto an encrypted flash drive. I went through the horrors of having a phone die on me after migrating my topt to a local solution. Having a valid login cookie on bitwarden on my laptop was the only thing that saved me.
You vans I may be able to manage a backup and understand how these codes are generated. The average person does not.
From memory most totp apps don’t even migrate when you move from one phone to another - at least on iPhone. I haven’t done that for 5 years but I seem to remember having to create new entries.
I've moved between three managers in the past two years and all of them supported importing and exporting your full lists. That could be a recent development, though. I admit, I haven't used an apple product in a long time, so you could be right. I don't trust SMS, because I don't trust cleartext over the air. Too many people have too much time on their hands and information is too readily available.
We managed to get given a drug dealer's former landline, and had to get it changed after strange calls in the middle of the night. Then our neighbours got the same number after about a year and had the same issue.
Where I’m from, the person who sneezes often says nothing, unless they’re accidentally sneezing near someone else. Strangers nearby however will say “bless you!” or occasionally “gesundheit!” But yes, I think people who utter the words do so as a quick reaction without much forethought.

People draw dicks because they feel it’s funnier, it’s a form of rebellion, and/or it’s way easier than almost anything else. And because they can without repercussion.
I understand all that, but how would you explain that 8,6% of drawings from people coming from HN were dicks, while visitors from Tumblr would draw dicks only in 1,6% of the cases? My guess is that people from Tumblr already explored a lot of the transgressions, so it does not interest them much - just like "potty talk phase" stops being interesting after your reach a certain age.

Anecdote time: Last year my wife asked ChatGPT to make a multiple choice test to learn some Biology topic. I arrived and she showed the test to me. The options were a, b, c or d. I wrote e to see what happens :) ChatGPT gave a good reply explaining that I made a mistake :(
Indeed, I think this is how it starts. However the filtering system does not indicate to the user if their drawing was filtered - otherwise it would turn into a "trick the system" game - a whole different genre. So the visitor always gets the satisfaction of seeing their penis galloping on the horizon. Still, many if not most penis artists then continue to add more and more lewd drawings. So it's not just a test but some other behaviour. Coming from Hacker News, they might feel like a hacker, a rebel breaking the system. And that's fine - after all there are not many ways in a society where you can feel this way and not hurt anyone.
It's the other way around - I integrated some things I wrote in the comments here into the blog post. I'm still writing the post though - it's not easy to hypothesize about people's intention without sounding like an ass.
