I think the more common case is listings that are technically "open" but due to slow internal processes, repositioning, etc etc, no work is being done towards filling them that is visible to candidates.

For example, I've personally witnessed situations where the funding for a role gets postponed to next quarter, but my manager just kept it open anyway, either out of fear of missing out on the perfect candidate if they stopped accepting apps, or because it's simply easier than going through the HR process to re-post it in a month.

"Just email your cv" is literally impossible at many employers today. the app process is absolutely far more onerous for the applicant than it was a generation ago. For a bit of silver lining, I have noticed the "auto-populate from my resume" feature actually works reasonably well on some sites, which was not the case just a couple years ago when I was last looking.

Also, in some orgs you physically cannot send the cv.

I can't send or recieve documents as email attachments anymore to external stakeholders, everything must be via sharepoint link.

That, plus a decade of compulsory anti phishing training means no half competent HR person should be blind opening an attachment that says 'CV'.

I've noticed 3d printing people have this annoying habit of posting pics of their projects in just low enough res that you can't assess what the surface finish actually looks like. From what I can tell this "pebbled" finish looks uncommonly nice, I wonder if that's a byproduct of the glass fiber material or some post-processing.

Saving that precious GitLab Pages storage . I really liked the finish of the ABS GF from Bambu Lab. It matched the original case finish pretty well out of the printer. However, the glass fill is a bit scary; you can feel the fibers poking. I wiped it with a sturdy rag to remove the loose fibers.
