He won the civil war, that's where he gets his legitimity. No terrorist attacks since 2015, and even then the terrorist group leaders said it wasn't on their orders. No transnational terrorism is also a good sign. The Kurds were very skeptical a year ago, and probably afraid too, but from the little I heard, they seem relieved about what is currently happening (Lebanese too, I don't have close friends in other related communities). I know the SDF would be a better winner overall, but you have to make with what you get.
Also the Kurd I know have family in the Hatay province and around idil, so he is _very_ confident that economically at least it will be a success.
And like I said elsewhere, you can see the Turkish/ottoman Sunni influence in his religion (in islam culture and religion are extremely close), which is a very good sign. And concerning the massacre: we mostly forgot about Smyrna, and even Dersim isn't cited when we talk about Atatürk (both at least one order of magnitude bigger). It is very sad, but at the time European powers wanted stability in the area, and Atatürk gave them that. I only wish for the war to end and to have the area stabilise, and unlike Iran or even Irak, I see a slight chance that that it might end correctly for the minorities (10%?). Which isn't much, but I would rather wait a year or two before casting judgment.

I'm not saying Atatürk stabilized his country by genociding and massacring, I'm saying the league of nations decided that it was an acceptable cost for a leader who seemed stable to avoid a second balkanization.
My point is that I would rather have the current leader in Syria than an Isis that use it as a base for transnational terrorism (like lybia was under Ghadafi) or a group of uneducated cunts like the current Taliban leadership that terrorise most of the population. The best would have been no civil war at all, and a democratic transition. We don't have that.
The current leader is violent and undemocratic, he doesn't deserve the position he have.
Nevertheless, cutting Syria off, or worse, triggering a new civil war because we don't like him and we are afraid of his politics before we actually see his politics is idiotic. Especially since his policies have evolved to something way less integrist and way more legalist (hence my comment on no terror attacks), which, imho and maybe I'm wrong, is probably the best chance for an islamic administration to be part of the modern world (the best scenario would be a secular government: we wouldn't have that in Syria even if the SDF won). There is no evidence for these types of claims. They likely need to retain data for legal purposes (I think all of them are under injunctions from court cases), but there’s no way they will be breaching contracts with all these enterprises just for a little bit of data. Those contracts are their lifeline.

I feel like i threw 15 dollars in the sea. I'm getting rate limited after 3-4 prompts. You get way less value than just paying 25 dollars for Claude or OpenAI models.
How are you using it? I have the lite plan and I've only ever maxed my weekly usage a few hours before reset. I will concede that I'm not a super heavy LLM user but it's been really good for me.
My workflow is usually:
- read file. I want to achieve X, how do? Do not implement anything.
- I would do a, b and c
- sketch a brief implementation of your suggestion
- <code> (not writing files yet)
- instead of your approach x, wouldn't it make sense to instead do z? What would that look like?
Are you using it in an agentic workflow? Just reading the codebase will consume a lot of cached tokens, but seemingly, z.ai counts these as normal input tokens the way they're rate limiting.
I'm not entirely sure what an agentic workflow could mean today but I think so. I use a coding agent (crush), prompt it to brainstorm an implementation with me (or sometimes I know exactly how I want to implement it but ask it to challenge it), correct any wrong assumptions or request the implementation to look differently than suggested if I don't like it. Then finally when I'm positive I've cleared the most important assumptions I ask it to actually write and edit files and run tests and such (this just ends up being a "implement this").
With any model I've tried I've found it to be a huge pain to have it fix things where it made a wrong assumption without the code becoming a mess and burning a lot of tokens. I'm aware that not everyone works like this but I'm still very opinionated on what the end result should look like so I can still work on it without an LLM.
I had the Lite plan, I NEVER maxed out the quota because I considered these things. If I, for example, switched over to GLM-5-Turbo, then I could've easily burned through quota.

My take on detoxing from doomscroller apps was to uninstall their phone app and use their web version instead. The experience is so much less rewarding that i barely open instagram any longer. This is the only thing that worked for me. I even tried MDM:ing my devices once...
