So sad to see that most of the commenters can't even try and visualize this future; and prefer to try and justify the current explotative economic model. And the even saddest part, is that they probably aren't even the ones doing the explotation).
And the worst part is that even if we give in to their demands and log in, we’d probably only get six more months of old.reddit at most. By being complacent now, we’re basically showing them that they can do whatever they want.
So after they shut down old.reddit, they might require login for new.reddit too, or maybe cripple the website so much that it’ll be impossible to use it without their app (like Facebook and Instagram).
I guess it’d be better to write a userscript that replaces their UI completely, and/or start getting used to not browsing Reddit.
By still being there at all, you've been complacent all along. Sometimes my principles sting but within a day or two of leaving, I didn't miss it at all.
I don’t know where all the good posters are going to, maybe off social media entirely. We really need a reset after almost all the platforms became owned by the most sociopathic and out of touch people in society
But regardless of whether he's right or wrong, I personally really liked his explanation about what exactly quantum computers are even trying to achieve and how they theoretically supposed to work :)
Then why won't they focus on fixing the root of the problem, with educating and healing (psychologically) people before they have children so that there won't be neglected children to protect in the first place?
Having children should be a privilege, not a human right. Especially when the majority of children end up being abused either way (either physically, emotionally or both). It is far more common to have abusive or neglectful parents than it seems.
Well they can just ban porn altogether, for everyone, and enforce it with jail time for everyone involved (from its creation to distribution); then most of the problems will be solved.

On one hand, I agree with you; The internet, in its current state, has probably more negative aspects to it than positive ones.
But, on the other hand, I don't think that I can completely ignore the good it has brought to the world.
If a person is motivated enough, he can pretty easily navigate through propaganda simply by choosing to consume information from different sources (for example, reading about the us from both the us perspective and russian or chinese perspective).
Of course, the main reason there aren't many people who do that is both simple but also complex. People don't have enough time at which they aren't either exhausted from work or life in general; or stressing about something that has to do with capitalism (either money, wars, work and etc).
So at the little amount of free time that they do have - they aren't going to challenge their beliefs (or at least, the beliefs of those who surround them); It's exhausting, and it's easier to just read the propoganda, feel better about yourself because a good propaganda always have someone else to blame - and continue with your day to day life (if one can even call that life; because to me it seems more accurate to call it "existence").
But in any case, what you've said reminded me of this post and how the internet positively impacted one person; so even though I doubt it'll convince anyone of anything - it's still a very heartwarming story:
